Tinea versicolor, also known as Pityriasis versicolor, is a common fungal infection of the skin. It is caused by an overgrowth of the yeast Malassezia furfur, which is normally found on the skin without causing any problems. However, certain factors can trigger the yeast to multiply and lead to the development of tinea versicolor.
The following condition was seen in a 10-years-old, female presented with discoloration and white patches all over the neck, shoulders and back, along with few other body parts. A well planned ayurvedic therapy was advised to the patient; which included medications like - Kaishor guggulu, Arogyavardhini vati, Shamshamani vati, Gandhak rasayan, Lukoskin oral liquid (Aimil) along with topical application of Nimba tail for 45 days. The skin condition was treated considering it as Kustha predominant in Vata and Kapha dosha. The above mentioned treatment was exhibiting satisfactory results with time.
