Abstract

In the current scenario people are deeply concerned about their health because of lifestyles have changed drastically due to increase in working hours and various psychological pressures, which have led to an increased incidence of various life-threatening diseases. The demand for nutraceuticals and phytonutrients has increased over the past few years and they are being used by people for various therapeutic outcomes. Nutraceuticals have received considerable interest because of their presumed safety. Nutraceuticals are food or part of food that provides medical or health benefits including the prevention and treatment of a disease. These nutraceuticals help in combating some of the major health problems such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes, cholesterol etc. Nutraceutical has advantage over the medicine because they avoid side effect, have natural dietary supplement, etc. The present work gives an overview of the reasons for shift towards Nutraceuticals, Classification of Nutraceuticals, Contribution of Nutraceuticals in Therapeutics and Various nutraceutical products.
