A COMPREHENSIVE LITERATURE REVIEW ON CHITRAKA (Plumbago zeylanica)

The field of Ayurvedic science is gaining more importance and popularity across the world because of its remarkable therapeutic values. Ayurveda acharyas have invented and documented various medicinal plants with their Guna, Karma, Rasapanchak, formulations and indications to be used for the treatment. Among them Chitraka is one of the drug which is documented in all Samhita Granths, Chikitsa Granths and Nighantus with its specific uses and indications in various diseases like Agnimandhya, Arsha, Grahani, Kustha, Shoola, Shotha. Many research work has done regarding the medicinal properties of this plants in different ailments like Anti-inflammatory activity, Antiallergic activity, Anti-arthritic activity, Anti-fungal activity, Antidiabetic activity. It indicates the importance of the drug that it was screened for various activities. This whole study is an attempt to throw a light on the mentions, formulation, indications as described in various ayurvedic texts and different research works.
