A STUDY OF THE STATUS OF BASIC AMENITIES IN INDIA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO JHARKHAND

Safe drinking water and sanitation are basic prerequisite for quantity of life and achieving all dimensions of sustainable development, including health, food security and zero poverty. United Nations has recognized ‘Water and Sanitation’ as a human right. The school level basic amenities have improved over the years. In drinking water facility Andhra Pradesh ranks first with 85.9% and West Bengal least with 16.1% households. As per Census 2011, the rural sanitation coverage was 32.70%; as per the baseline survey (2012-13) it has reached to the level of 38.81%; till 2nd October, 2014, it was 42.05% and reached to the level of 49.02% till 31st December 2015. The study concludes that the states Odisha, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are lagging behind the national average.
