Its importance varies by product, industry and customer. Customer service may be provided by a person or by automated means called self-service. Services marketing is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marketing">marketing</a> based on relationship and value. It may be used to market a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_%28economics%29">service</a> or a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_%28business%29">product</a>. Economies tend to follow a developmental progression that takes them from a heavy reliance on agriculture and mining, toward the development of industry (e.g. automobiles, textiles, shipbuilding, steel) and finally toward a more service based structure.
