A CONTENT ANALYSIS STUDY ON COVERAGE OF WOMEN EMPOWERMENT ISSUES IN TWO NATIONAL DAILIES

This research paper “A Content Analysis Study on Coverage of Women Empowerment Issues in Two National Dailies” is an attempt to study the coverage and treatment given to the issues of women empowerment in two leading English newspapers of Delhi.
The research is structured in a manner to look at the various aspects relating to women empowerment stories in the newspaper. The study looks deep into the social, political, and economic indicators of women empowerment and which indicator is highlighted the most with how many stories are dealing with the subject. The study looks at the factors which has made women empowerment relating stories limited in the newspapers and whether it is correct to blame the media’s extensive coverage on other issues. The study deeply analyses two newspapers, through content analysis, using both the qualitative and the quantitative method. The study tries to investigate the coverage of women empowerment issues receive in two newspapers.
Beginning with an introduction chapter, which tells the readers about the significance of the study the research makes an effort to delve into the nature of stories on women on the social, economic and political indicators. The study revealed that the representation of women in print media is very limited. India even after the 70 years of its independence and women working and excelling in all walks of life still their representation in the mainstream newspapers was significantly less when compared to other stories.
